The current Blog has been created for my "ICT for Teaching and Learning" class. The purpose of this blog is to document my Genius Hour research. Genius Hour is a movement that allows students to explore their own passions and encourages creativity in the classroom.  It can be used in the classroom to by a teacher who provides their students with a set amount of time to work on a project that they have selected based on their own passion/interests. Students are then challenged to explore something that they want to learn about, and they spend several weeks researching this topic before they start creating a product that will be shared with the class, school, and world. Throughout the process, the teacher facilitates the student projects to ensure that they are on task.

This is me!

My main goal for this blog is not only to gain a basic understanding of how to implement Genius Hour in an educational setting, but also to help other teachers do the same in their classrooms. Genius Hour is something that I never participated in myself as a student, and I am not very familiar with the concept. Therefore, this will be a terrific experience for myself professionally; from what I already know about Genius hour, it is something that I can foresee myself using in my classrooms in the future. I look forward to being a student in this course and to continue my journey of life-long learning!

Here is one of my favourite homemade videos! It is a bunch of footage taken on my GoPro camera form when I was 17, during the summer of 2014! I used GoPro Studio to create the video on my laptop, and it took me about a week to edit the clips and put it all together, before it was ready to be uploaded on YouTube. This would be a great way for you to see my family and friends enjoying time at out cottage on Lake Muskoka, one of my favourite locations! I could also use GoPro Studio and YouTube in my own classroom, by having my students create their own video edits and upload their video on YouTube so that their classmates and teachers can view it!
